I produced this short as a promotional piece for my animation blog ( animade.tv ). Being my first 3D animation I allowed my inexperience to provide limitations that would steer the final piece. The film is constructed from 2 cameras. One being a point of view shot from the rubbers pospective, while the other is a simple subjective shot exposing both characters.
Rubbed Out
I have just completed a short one minute animation for animade.tv. Have a look HERE
Go Red
This is my contribution to the Go-Red monster auction. I was given the task of producing the body and arms of a fantastical beast. This involved drawing the tree segments by hand and then scanning and compositing them along side the digitally drawn figure.

Richard House is London’s first hospice for children with life-threatening and complex healthcare conditions. We need to raise an estimated £1.8 million this year to ensure the running of the hospice; this vital work depends almost entirely upon the generous support of individuals, companies and trusts. GO RED! is one of our most important fund-raising campaigns.Find out more at: www.richardhouse.org/go-red/

animade update
My animation blog animade can now be found at animade.tv. The concept came about whilst thinking about botox users and their wonderfully emotionless faces. The eyebrow hat allows its wearer to express themselves by altering the pitch and height of each synthetic brow using the lightweight controller. The result is a dignified look that friends and family will admire.

Tech Stuff
- 1 x Arduino Board - located within the controller
- 4 x mini servos - tailored into the front of the hat
- 2 x slide potentiometers (adjust height of each brow)
- 2 x rotational potentiometers (adjust pitch of each brow)
- 1 x Bowler hat
- 2 x synthetic eyebrows
- 2 x skin coloured plasters (to disguise your original brows)
(more info and images coming soon)

Thanks to -
Luis Lopez-Smith who hand tailored a unique servo pouch for the Hat.
Grids Grids is an animation framework that uses a grid of 12 x 12 squares rather than a linear sequence of frames. Through interaction with the controller the viewer can play through the grid in 2 directions. Along the x axis of the grid or down the y axis.

The 2 wheel controller plays back a grid of frames. One wheel plays across the grid on the x axis, whilst the other plays down the x axis. This gives the view the interactive ability to explore all 144 frames of the animation in along various paths.

Tech stuff:
The controller uses 12 magnets on each wheel to trigger a reed switch which then communicates with Flash via an arduino. Flash interprets the data and moves the grid across or down by one square for each magnet that passes. The sound is produced in MAX MSP (collaboration with Chris Chong from the royal college of music). Flash sends a piece of data for each frame change, which is interpreted according to the time passed since the last hit. This creates synced sounds which vary in pitch with the speed of the wheel(s) being spun. ActionScript 3 I started learning Actionscript 3 in July 08. Here is an ever growing collection of tests and experiments. click the titles to launch them

• TREE - roll over the ends of branches to grow new ones. This project was a real mixture of character design, illustration and some full on Actionscript 3 coding.

Part 1 - The Face Maker
Each of the 110 artists involved in YCN Live created an avatar using this face maker that I designed / programmed / and illustrated. The demo above gives a basic idea of how it worked, however the actual face maker included a save function so that the artists could create and save their face. The data was collected in a xml file and then used to load the 110 avatars into part 2.

Part 2 - In Show Navigation
The faces made up the navigation that was pumped onto 2 large displays at the show. The viewer used a toggle wheel (created and designed by Tinker) to interact with the navigation which I programmed in flash and designed alongside HudsonBec.

Try it out!
Afflecks I worked with ?Love? to produce these large scale illustrations for the relaunch of Afflecks in Manchester. They will be in place of the Mosaics until they have been cleaned and reinstated some time latter this year. I had 5 days to produce the 18 panels. Taking inspiration from the new Logo I put together the picture story of a fox who rediscovers himself. Doritos I produced this poster for Doritos to advertise their free play competition in universities across the UK. Barclays 3 illustrations for Barclays to promote the opening of their new Manchester store. I worked along with Stuart Kolakovic who produced the other 3 images. The illustrations will be appearing on a huge hoarding and on publicity material. Little John Robert This is the result of a two week animation project. The aim was to experiment with Lip Syncing techniques over a selection of audio provided by the Imperial War Museum. I started by selecting and editing the sound track together from over 4 hours of recordings. Then I animated little John Robert using a mixture of Flash and Stop Frame animation then bundled it all together in After Effects. Computer Arts 2 Computer Arts commissioned me to produce a half page illustration for their 143th issue. The article talks about how designers need to be brave and keep pushing the creative process to its limits. So I drew someone scanning a lion. Zeptoon Collab I have been working with Illustrative designer Jan Willem Wennekes (aka Zeptonn) on a black and white collaborative piece. It is going to be included in the book which is to be published later this year. You can see more of Zeptonn?s work by following the link below. WheelTime The world falls apart as the inhabitants drastically underestimate the significance of one man - I produced this animation using a mixture of hand drawn stop-motion and computer based manipulation. For more information about Wheel Time feel free to e-mail me. If I Could... This is my illustration for the first issue of If You Could - Published by Hudson Bec Timelines I drew loads and loads of pictures for this BBC bafta award winning history program. Here are just a few of them. Burton GTwin Burton asked me to draw something for their 2008 GTwin board way back in the summer of 2006. I did the work but had to hold back from showing any images due to the contract I signed. Anyhow, today I received the boards that they gave me as part-payment for the job, so I guess I am allowed to add this to my portfolio. Bit annoying really posting up work that I did 1 and a half years ago. Any way here are some images of the work I did and the board that it?s on. Computer Arts 1 Computer Arts commissioned me to produce a half page illustration for their 126th issue. The theme was After Effect plug ins. I was keen to explore various ways of indulging my normal style with a bit of photoshop malarkey. Sound into Image Using stop frame techniques with TORN CARD / PAPER CUT OUTS / PAINT ON GLASS / FILM / BLUE-TAK / PEN AND INK. Everyday Everyday was a self-set project intended to keep me drawing on a regular basis. Each page represents a day of my life and was scanned and uploaded to my site. I completed 2 years of drawing Everyday.

VIEWER INSTRUCTIONS
Use the viewer above to navigate all 731 pages of Everyday.
